In the story of Macbeth, his quest to fulfill his ambitious dreams gets to his head and has detrimental effects on himself and others around him. Macbeth quotes “stars hide your flies; let night not see my dark and deep desires; The eye wink at the hand! yet let that be which the eye fears, when it is done to see”. Act 1 scene 4 (1.4.57.60) lines 5- 60. This quote shows that Macbeth calls on darkness to hide his evil thoughts and emotions. Macbeth is ready to overcome any opponent that stands in his path of ambition (ie. King Duncan and the future King Malcolm). Ambition is also feared by Macbeth because he knows he may have to commit atrocities to obtain his desires. Another quote from the story illustrating Macbeth's ambitions attempts, shows how ambitions have eventually overwhelmed him. “O, full of scorpions is mind, dear wife! Thou know where Banquo, and his fiancé live.” Macbeth’s wife is curious about Banquo and his fiancé. Macbeth wants them both murdered to protect his throne.
