Social Norms & The Emergence of the Nuclear Family

The nuclear family, an ideal most aspire to, one that is embedded in multiple facets of our life. It is depicted in the media in many, many forms. Consisting of a married couple, a home and some type of cliche pet, the Nuclear family is the apparent ideal norm we all aspire to and push our youth toward. A standard depiction of a positive “wholesome” family unit, the “white picket fence” ideal.  This essay will discuss some of the current sexual norms attached to the emergence and perpetuation of the nuclear family, in conjunction with today's progressive society and how it affects one's personal choices and why these ideals have been implemented. We will take a look at what we studied in class, and compare it to those ideas. Forcing or pushing the norms of the Nuclear Family has many reasons, but always comes down to monetary incentives...
